The Worm in the Apple!

Philippians 3:3-14

I remember one of my favorite times to be with my mom when I was young, was when she made chocolate chip cookies. She would let me help her and my favorite part was when I would stir in the extract of vanilla. The smell was heavenly, but I knew it was expensive and my mom had told me that it could not taste good. One day, I just could not resist anymore, so after I poured the vanilla in I quickly took a swig from the bottle. My mom turned just in time to see me swallow. She was not mad, and that she laughed for quite a while as she saw my face showing the learning experience of finding out that just because something smells good does not guarantee it tastes good.

I never forgot how bad that tasted, still, it was a great lesson, to really “know” something, you have to know ALL of it! Sometimes, when we only see a part of something, it may skew our understanding of what the whole is in reality. It may look like a great apple, but if you bite into it and see a worm inside, your view will change! Sadly, many people...

Psalm 116:16--Bursting Forth

Although I am too old to enjoy going to the bottom of the pool's deep end frequently, I did so several times this past summer while entertaining a youngster just learning to do these things. As a child, however, the part I loved most about touching bottom was the pushing up afterwards with all my might and breaking forth through the surface tension of the water into the freedom of the breathable, wild air, testing how far I could rise above the waters, like a whale breaching from the ocean's depth.

Psalm 116:1-9--Death and Resurrection

Who can deny that Psalm 116:1-9 fits perfectly the death and resurrection of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ? And yet, as William Hill Tucker explains, the psalm is not so specific to Christ that readers everywhere at all times cannot identify the words as fitting their own particular life experiences as well. The psalm therefore profits the reader to consider it from both of these points of view, which is what this article will do.

Rising to Meet Christ in the Air: Word Study

Scripture describes a time when believers, both deceased and living, will be given new bodies and be caught up to meet Christ in the air. Three texts are often given. I've prepared a small word study on these texts.

It was Jesus that said, so don't blame me.

Don’t blame it on me; it was Jesus that said it – the man who came to set us free - “everyone that sins, is a slave to sin.”

I AM THE NAILS

I AM THE NAILS

There – in that Garden – I doubted God.  His Words “Eat NOT” were still ringing in my ears.  But what harm could a little fruit do me?  ‘Right or Wrong’ was not the issue for me at that moment but rather what was in all appearances Good for me and to all my desires.  His Words still rang in my ears; MY word was “Be Silent! I Want!”

“But you have no need of want.  You have my Presence and my Promise” His Word came gently back to me.

Thoughts on Romans 3:21

Rom 3:21  But now a righteousness from God, apart from law, has been made known, to which the Law and the Prophets testify.

But now a righteousness from God,
Righteousness - The general usage, according to Webster's, is conformity to a standard.
Whose standard? God's. Is it possible for man to uphold God's standard? Nope, never has been, never will, not while we are living on this earth.

When We Know He is Lord

Ezekiel 37:1-14 recounts an encounter between Ezekiel and God that has always fascinated me.  Ezekiel finds himself in the midst of a valley surrounded by dry bones.  God asks, “Can these bones live?”  Ezekiel’s response has always given me a chuckle:  “Sovereign Lord, only You know the answer to that.”
