Tutorial and Overview of the Path to Spiritual Maturity (Beta 2/29/2012)
Introduction
The Path to Spiritual Maturity began its development in January 2011 as an effort to aid and spur discipleship as a reproductive cycle. It was envisioned to be a way to help individuals and groups of believers to creatively and intentionally pursue spiritual growth. It would take place through pursuing personal relationships with fellow believers, growing in knowledge, and growing in application.
The Path is currently a three segment journey.
Segment one is discovery, and will be geared towards sharing the gospel with a non-believer who wants to learn more, or has questions about finding a relationship with God. This segment still needs to be developed.
Segment two is foundations, and is geared towards providing new believers with a solid foundation in their Christian walk. The beta version has been developed, and is open for feedback and improvement.
Segment three is discipling , and will be geared towards producing “disciplers of disciplers” who use their gifts within their God given roles. This segment still needs to be developed.
The Community
This journey is best completed in pairs (or as a group) in order to promote accountability, personal interaction, and further guidance in application. (i.e. mentor/mentee, husband/wife, friends, or as a class with a leader available to go over the results of the assessment, and to aid with questions along the way.) However it can be done by the individual also—though it is encouraged that one seek out a mature Christian who could be available (at least once in a while!) for questions and face to face guidance. This information page is for those going through the "Foundation" stage with another.
Disclaimer: This program is in Beta Testing. It has not yet received its full "Bible.org Ministry Seal of Approval." It needs to be tested in real live discipleship situations.

The Need:
The primary task given to the church was to go and make disciples of all nations (Matthew 28:19-20). Are you growing as a disciple of Jesus Christ? Are you helping disciple others to be better disciples of Jesus? What are you intentionally doing to push yourself in the “race that is set before us” (Hebrews 12:1-2)? What are you intentionally doing to “consider one another to provoke unto love and good works” (Hebrews 10:24)?
Do not waste the one life you have been given. The pursuit of money, things, people, pleasure, fame, prestige, or power will not last (Hebrews 11:24-26). Pursue what matters. Live as a citizen of heaven (Philippians 3:20).
Therefore, knowing the love of Christ, and the fear of God (2 Corinthians 5:10-15) let us intentionally share the gospel, intentionally grow as disciples, and intentionally help disciple others.
This Path to Spiritual Maturity is one intentional way of doing that. So let’s begin the journey together!
The Process (explore it all on the Pathway):
Step 1: Pray and think through the Preface to User
1. Think through your motivation to grow and your commitment to follow Christ. Read the Scriptures given. Pray about who Christ is, what He has done, and your relationship with Him. Take some time to write out your thoughts. Do this to get your priorities straight, and your reasons for pursuing this pathway right: not out of legalism but love, not out of drudgery but delight.
1. The assessment may be found here: Solid Foundations Assessment.
2. Identify a mature believer to whom your results may be e-mailed. Meet and discuss the results to help determine what areas need the most attention.
Step 3: Personal Bible Reading/Study
1. Begin an intentional Bible reading program with the provided links to Bible reading tools and resources. Journal your Scripture reading/Obseration/Application/Prayer. Record your progress in the check boxes.
2. Bible Backgrounds helps are available to assist [not replace!] one's Bible reading plan. (Book Introductions, Bible Surveys, Maps, Pictures)
3. Interact with others. There are multiple ways to share, discuss, and encourage application -- including Blogs, Forums, Groups,
Facebook, and
Twitter.
Step 4: Recommended Articles and Application
1. Read at least 1-2 articles in each of the 13 foundational areas. Read 2 or more in the areas which need the most attention.
2. After each one discuss the article with your group/ministry leader/partner and settle one 1 or 2 things that you will apply as you work on growing in that area. The application questions/suggestions should be helpful.
3. Interact with others. There are multiple ways to share, discuss, and encourage application -- including Blogs, Forums, Groups,
Facebook, and
Twitter.
Step 5: Retake the Assessment
1. The assessment may be found here: Solid Foundations Assessment.
2. Meet and discuss the results with a mature believer. In what areas do you need extra work (examining both knowledge and application)? If/where any areas need more attention, selectively revisit those areas with their assistance. Read and reread the Bible and articles. Add new applications to further your growth and understanding. Retake the test as needed, but at this point the feedback of your mentor/guide/discipler is the most crucial.
Step 6: Graduation! (optional)
1. Send in your completed Bible reading record, 13 category webform, Solid Foundations Assessment, as well as your discipler's full approval of your completion of each facet of the process to the Path to Spiritual Maturity (see also the graduation feature of the PTM for details). We will process your work and give feedback and/or notification of your official graduation from the Foundations Stage of Bible.org's Path to Spiritual Maturity process.
2. Continue to be intentional about your spiritual growth.
4. Revisit these topic areas from time to time and refresh your heart and mind. Continue sharing and encouraging others in their growth from what you have learned in this stage. Continue studying the Bible, reading articles, and applying those truths to your life in the successive stages (Lord willing forthcoming)!
Step 7: Continued Intentional Spiritual Growth
1. Look for further editions (stages) of Bible.org's Path to Spiritual Maturity that are to be developed. (Discovery, [Foundations], Discipling)
