Deferred Task: Tagging of Articles

Volunteer Task: Tagging of Articles
Task Description and Explanation: (this task is defered because of higher priorities and no staff person to assign to it)
Tagging as a Navigation aid- As more and more content becomes available on Bible.org and the Internet in general, users need better tools to aid in the location and rapid assessment of articles as to their answering what the user is searching for By assisting the technical staff in this exercise, it is hoped that better tags or help words will be added to system so that users can readily find articles that lean towards those areas that the tagging supports.
Pre-reading assignment: http://labs.bible.org/NETBibleTagger
Tools needed: a notepad text file or some simple text editor
Step by step description of task:
1. Find a sample page e.g. http://bible.org/seriespage/stewardship-time
2. Copy the url and paste it into a file
3. Do a “save as” so that your work is not lost
4. Read the article and make a list of tags/helpful words that indicate the subject matter under discussion in that article.
5. Under the url that you have listed; type the topics/tags/helpful words like the following example:
http://bible.org/seriespage/stewardship-time
Stewardship, Time, Busy, Spiritual Life
http://bible.org/seriespage/preface-assured-life
Assurance, Spiritual Life, Growth, Faith
Critical Detail: Please make the first letter of the topic words capital and the rest small letters like examples above
Rationale for step by step: In this way, we can easily paste the url in our browser, then open/edit the file and paste in your tags
Where to begin: For a start you may choose the articles located in this series:
http://bible.org/series/abcs-christian-growth-laying-foundation
Upon completion and acceptance of your work by the technical staff try others:
1. Go to the series http://bible.org/byauthor/23/j_hampton_keathley,_iii
2. Find each article in the series
3. Replicate the procedure in steps under step by step
4. Send sample tags to: http://bible.org/user/227/contact
Time : open to your discretion and availability
