Step 2: Review of Focusing on Motivation.
-Go over last week’s assignment of Focusing on Motivation.
So did you spend some time thinking and praying through your motivation and commitment to following Christ? (Yes/no) Did you find it helpful? What part of the motivation section made you think the most? What decisions did you make?
Let’s walk through the Motivation section together. From what I had originally had I added a section to it on “where does commitment/internal motivation come from?” I have been thinking on this idea of motivation for a little while now, and I believe, as can be seen in Titus 3:3-8 and 2 Timothy 1:5-12, that our motivation comes from God’s Spirit working within us as we remember/meditate on who God is and what He has done for us (also the very point of communion that Christ commanded us to observe).
This past couple weeks as I have been thinking about it I applied it in examining my life and my use of extra time…to see where my heart was focusing. There are many things in life that are good and to be enjoyed….but that are not always best…or that can be taken too far…(laying aside the weight which encumbers us and slows us down in the race—Heb. 12:1-2) I had to do that and minimize/watch carefully some recreational activities that I am involved in.
So where is your commitment? What are we pursuing? Are you ready to follow Christ above all else? What is holding you back? Have you worked through your life and heart to ensure nothing is holding you back?
Accountability? Do you have someone to help you maintain this commitment, to encourage you? That is one of the things we want to do here…Find someone. E-mail me or Gayeif you cannot find someone present there in your life.
Step 3: This week’s assignment: Begin a Bible Reading Plan.
Begin a Bible reading plan, record your progress for the week (if you finish any books), and be willing to share one thought that you learned or that really struck you when we meet next week. Familiarize yourself with the different features of the Bible reading portion. (Net study Bible environment, maybe begin a users blog about what you are reading…finding ways to interact with your reading will really help you learn and meditate on it better. That’s part of commitment, how you get to know Jesus better.)
Step 4: Questions, comments, and interaction.
…
