Review of The Word for Windows

I just began using The Word a few days ago, after reading about it on the Forum where the poll was posted.  So I may very well have much more to write at a later date...

However, let me say, to begin, that so far I am extremely impressed with this program!  It's very easy to download: I downloaded the compact version on to a 1G flash drive, and I've been able to run The Word on a couple different computers.  Adding modules to the basic download is very easy to do, and doesn't take much time at all.

The Word may not be quite as easy to use as e-Sword, but it's pretty simple to get the hang of anyway.  And the layouts are much more adaptable than e-Sword's layouts.  They have several preloaded layouts, with the ability to save more of your own design.  Furthermore, the screen is quite a bit more colorful than e-Sword, with a wide variety of different skins to choose from.  So much for how it looks...

The program loads nice and quick, just like e-Sword, and if you add several of the modules available on The Word's website, you can easily have several handy resources right there at your fingertips: Bible versions (mostly the usual public domain versions for free download), dictionaries and commentaries.  If you download the ESV and the basic NET edition, you've got a good start for old and new versions of Scripture.  Sure, most of the dictionaries and commentaries are older ones, such as Clarke and Henry, but they are enough for the average layperson.

I'll be playing around with The Word quite a bit in the days to come, and hope to add more of my thoughts here at that time.  Meanwhile, I encourage you to try this program, and enjoy!

Agree, this is good stuff

I never heard of this software until this post, and I checked it out as well.  Very impressive...been a long time user of e-Sword, but The Word is the only one I loaded on my laptop.  It has an import utility for those of us who used e-Sword, and I was able to import nearly all of the commentaries, books, and Bibles from e-Sword to the Word.  Like the interface, going to give this one a big thumbs up!!
