  • Do You Really Watch What You Say?   1 year 9 weeks ago

Your note: "I can ...but should I" resonated with me...how often do we say as we are blistering another..."I can" and fail to stop and think "should I". If we did that step first many of our conversations would be quickly ended...and the "evil one" would not be able to tip toe into the throne room and say, as the "accuser of the brethren,"...see that one is not really your follower after all; just listen to their words. Let's not give the "evil one" his golden opportunity; let's instead give God His glory by trumping over him through the power of the Resurrected One.

Good blog and good thoughts to ponder.

  • Discipleship Despite Difficulties - Acts 20:1-6   1 year 9 weeks ago

I does not have to fall under the category of fear to have the wisdom to get out of town so that you can continue to preach in another one. An example: Egypt. The man, a leader in the Muslim Brotherhood, has stated that it is his number one goal to enact Sharia law throughout Egypt when he becomes president.

My suggestion to any Christians living there, get out while you can. Those that stay need to know that much affliction is coming to you.

Now you want to hear the faith part of this. Daniel 12:3. The 12th chapter of Daniel speaks of the end times, and yet this verse shines like a powerful beacon.

Daniel 12:3 AMP  And the teachers and those who are wise shall shine like the brightness of the firmament, and those who turn many to righteousness (to uprightness and right standing with God) [shall give forth light] like the stars forever and ever.

Wise: From Strong's - A primitive root; to be (causeatively make or act) circumspect and hence intelligent: - consider, expert, instruct, prosper, (deal) prudent (-ly), (give) skill (-ful), have good success, teach, (have, make to) understand (-ing), wisdom, (be, behave self, consider, make) wise (-ly), guide wittingly.

Many implications there, but a strong theme is using your head in the application of God's word.

Check Joel chapter 2. Peter quoted from this chapter on the day of Pentecost when he spoke to the hecklers. He said,

Act 2:13  Others mocking said, These men are full of new wine.
Act 2:14  But Peter, standing up with the eleven, lifted up his voice, and said unto them, Ye men of Judaea, and all ye that dwell at Jerusalem, be this known unto you, and hearken to my words:
Act 2:15  For these are not drunken, as ye suppose, seeing it is but the third hour of the day.
    Act 2:16  But this is that which was spoken by the prophet Joel;
Act 2:17  And it shall come to pass in the last days, saith God, I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh: and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams:
Act 2:18  And on my servants and on my handmaidens I will pour out in those days of my Spirit; and they shall prophesy:

Act 2:19  And I will shew wonders in heaven above, and signs in the earth beneath; blood, and fire, and vapour of smoke:

This too was speaking of the last days, after the rapture of the church, but the fact that Peter said that it is fulfilled in your ears means now. Now is always in the present tense. NOW! To those who stay in Egypt I strongly suggest you invest in the power of the Holy Spirit and call those that be not as though they were. God will move mountains on your behalf. I know it. If you know anyone like this, tell them.

  • All Positive?   1 year 9 weeks ago

Does this  imply the "well meaning", with an emphasis on mean, replies that I have received on my blog from other sites. Not this site, as no one responds here.

I know what you mean. But doesn't the fact that I commented prove that I at least read it, and that could be a positive? Heh.

Although you might not gather it from this comment I appreciated your post.

  • Path to Spiritual Maturity Meeting #7 Recap - God (Trinity)   1 year 9 weeks ago

Challies has a great fully-shareable (just not saleable) infographic on the Trinity:

View the link for a downloadable version. It's size makes it a bit unwieldy for the browser window, but its usefulness overrides its awkwardness.

Only one selection in 'Please select all the offerings you would be interested in' was permitted. I also wanted to add 'Live, interactive online Bible studies.'  I tried using the control or shift key to make multiple selections, but it did not work.

    Thank you!

  • I Thought I was Superman! Judges 2   1 year 10 weeks ago

I think you summed up perfectly how we are to view ourselves in relationship to God: The man is just me, the Super is God working it all out through me. Philippians 3:21.

And I need to do that as well...the "woman' in me is just me...remember that the "Super" is God working through me...good concept. Thanks for that analogy

Thanks Stephen...good post and that last statement sums it up perfectly. Scientists indeed are "myopic"...oh that they might have the scales removed to see the beauty in God and His plan for all ages and men.

You hit the nail on the head...Praise God for speaking out! Yes, Gideon failed in the end...may I not be that way...may I cling closely to the Lord so that the enemy may not have victory.

    Stephen,

I love the way you so carefully delineated the problems that create confusion for the 'non-science' person on this critical topic. It will help me in my own defense of creationism. Thank you.

  • Please tell us a little bit about yourself ...   1 year 11 weeks ago

Hello, my name is Mitchell McBrayer, and I am a Mandarin learning student at Tulane University. I know several Chinese students and adults here in New Orleans who are Christians, and together we will definitely give feedback if we see anything that can possibly be perfected. I will make sure all of these people know about this great resource!

    Thanks so much!

  • I'll Take The Hill Country   1 year 11 weeks ago

Thanks GB for this insight...once again you saw in this passage a nugget of infor that we often miss: “the land to which you sent us”  isn't that just like us...not the Land the Lord has promised but the land to which you sent us..that puts it all into perspective doesn't it.

Caleb and Joshua are heroes in my mind...but then we come to the end of the book of Joshua and on into Judges and our hearts sink. Why so? Because of what you pointed out. The Israelites did not see it as the Land that the Lord had promised but just as the land. Today as I was reading I saw this principle in living color as I read Judges 1 and 2. Without seeing it as God's gift they and we too, become complacent and willing to compromise. And so as we look at our country, we see the loss of many godly leaders and with the lack of their leadership we fail to cling to God, we fail to remember, we fail to honor Him. We need a fresh revival of the old time Joshua/Caleb's before us..but as it says in Judges, God left the enemies there to test the Israelites to see if they would obey Him and follow Him. Sadly, like Lot they chose Sodom rather than the tents of Abraham. The slippery slope is before us and we are seeing it happen in our own country. Oh for the Joshua's and Caleb's and Abraham's to stand up and be counted...

    Thanks once again..

Stephen...interesting viewpoint...could not agree more..I am dealing almost daily with an atheist whose arguments sound prideful...he knows but he refuses...all because of that disease called pride.

  • Where Is He?   1 year 11 weeks ago

Thanks John for this informative writing. How clear it is to us "now" but how veiled it was to them long ago. I often wonder why they did not see it and then again I am like the 12 yr old who thinks that others know so therefore why worry. I often saw that in my nephew. He would wander off when we were in museums but he always found us later..how I could not fathom. Unlike Mary and Joseph who were frantic my brother in law had complete confidence that Adrian would find us sooner or later.

Then there is the statement you made: The Truth is very plain, but it can only be revealed through faith in Jesus Christ.

How very true. I have been discussing this very statement with a gentleman who is an atheist...and no matter how often I say it to him, it falls upon deaf ears. He will not, not that he cannot, but he chooses not to allow the truth to be revealed to him. Why is my question and I think you hit the nail on the head: Some of the prophecies are veiled, and also as you say: too overwhelmed with grief . How often do we allow the grief, bitterness or anger to veil the truth of the scriptures to us. How often do we allow our past to determine our future and our present day.

Yes Glory to God..that is how I end this note...if it was not for that my heart would be broken and unable to voice that...but no matter what life brings I will give Him glory...Thanks John ...you touched my heart.
